Feeling Guilty for Eating More Than Planned?
Here’s what your body is really trying to tell you:
If you’ve ever felt a pang of guilt after eating more than you “planned,” I want you to hear this: it’s probably not because you’re indulgent or out of control.
Especially postpartum, your body is doing a lot. It’s recovering from pregnancy, possibly producing milk, adjusting to new hormones, and navigating life with a newborn (or toddlers!). Sometimes, that means your appetite doesn’t fit neatly into your old rules or meal plans—and that’s completely normal.
What your body is really saying
That extra snack, that second helping, or that craving you can’t ignore? It’s not a moral failing. It’s your body saying, “Hey, I’ve got work to do—feed me.” Your body knows what it needs to recover, nurture your baby, and keep you healthy, even if your mind hasn’t caught up yet.
How to respond without guilt
Instead of letting guilt take over, try curiosity:
Pause and ask yourself, “What does my body really need right now?”
Give yourself permission to respond with care, not shame.
Notice that needing more fuel isn’t indulgence—it’s nourishment.
A gentle reminder:
Your body is working overtime, and that extra bite or snack isn’t a problem—it’s a sign that you’re listening to your needs. You can nourish yourself without guilt, and that is something you absolutely deserve. 💛
If this resonates, bookmark this post or save it for the next time your body asks for a little extra. You deserve to trust your hunger, honor your body, and choose nourishment over shame.
